2016 CTLC Leadership Workshop

Workshop on Change Leadership

Making Your Case for Change in Funding, Programs, and Innovation

DATE: Thursday, July 21, 2016

TIME: 9am – 5pm

LOCATION: Tarrant County College Northwest Campus (Room WACB 1123) in Fort Worth, TX

The Cross Timbers Library Collaborative (CTLC) and BlueSky to BluePrint Consulting are pleased to offer a full day pre-conference workshop based on curriculum developed in the IMLS-funded Nexus LAB Project.

How can our work in LAMs (libraries, archives, and museums) have a bigger “footprint” than it does today? Whether you are seeking funding for new initiatives to address changing circumstances, trying to build cross-organizational partnerships, or pitching a transformative concept to your administration (or Provost, or Dean, or Library Director, or city manager), you will need to be a strong advocate for the change you believe in.

This full day workshop is intended for mid- to top- level leaders in LAMs seeking to hone their skills in leading transformational change efforts.  This workshop will provide a productive and supportive group setting to work with colleagues on some key aspects of building a strong advocacy plan. Sessions will cover:

  • Positioning your organization in community, social, and economic Issues

This session will help you consider ways that your organization can play a greater role in the wider community and build bridges with new clientele.

  • Engaging diverse stakeholders

Once you have decided what change you want to effect, how will you do this? An important first step is to identify who the major stakeholders will be, and how you can best engage both natural allies and even those who at first may be less supportive.

  • Articulating the case for change

Having a good plan is important, but sharing it widely and strategically can determine whether or not you will be effective in supporting your cause. This session will help participants to articulate the value of their proposals and consider best means to communicate this more broadly.

About the Curriculum

The curriculum for this workshop has been newly developed in 2016 by the Nexus LAB project, an alliance of national experts in leadership training for LAMs, including leadership trainers from ACRL, ARL, and many national, statewide, and regional organizations.  Funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the Nexus LAB project has worked to document existing best leadership practices, cross-germination across leadership training groups, and the creation of a strong, extensible foundation to train and evaluate boundary-spanning leaders in archives, libraries, and museums.  This is one of the first workshops that has become available for the Nexus LAb content, and represents cutting-edge thinking concerning the most contemporary priorities of LAMs leadership in the 21st Century.  For more information about this national leadership development program, see http://educopia.org/research/nexus
